Colin grew
up in Clynder, in the West of Scotland and started playing piano at
six years old, thanks to classically pushy parents. He took up guitar
aged eleven, and then added mandolin and accordion after receiving
three albums by The Band for Christmas in 1986. He formed his first
band the same year with a bunch of schoolfriends, playing one gig
a year and quietly folding when he left for university. After his
degree course at Glasgow University, Colin moved to Oxford for his
D.Phil and started Bridge with Ed. This began as a recording project,
which despite being interrupted by two lengthy postdoctoral stints
in Chicago and Philadelphia gave rise to the album "Helen of Troy".
Colin now lives in rural Oxfordshire, writing and playing for Bridge
whilst doing a little research chemistry at a pharmacutical company.
Ed
Scroggie
Drums, Backing
Vocals
Oxfordian Ed
has been playing drums for fifteen years and has played in a variety
of the cities' bands. The most notable of these bands were To Jane
(also known as Janey), Especial K, a six-piece improvisation band
which fused Funk, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Jungle and Soul Craft, a four-piece
hard rock band, who supported Dustball at Radio 1's Sound City Oxford
in 1997. As for musical inspiration Ed likes to listen to 'anything
I think is good', but we all know that mainly means Led Zeppelin,
DJ Shadow, The Police and G Love & Special Sauce.
Adrian
Breakspear
Guitar, Backing
Vocals
Born and brought up in High Wycombe,
Adrian first picked up a guitar aged 12 and it's been downhill from
there on. After stints in the school jazz band and sixth form band
"Juminous", Adrian departed for Manchester and a degree
in music and sound recording. Upon his return to High Wycombe, Adrian
was recruited for Bridge via the web, and since then has been making
regular M40 journeys to rehearse and gig in Oxford.
When not playing in Bridge, Adrian works as an assistant engineer
in several top London recording studios (including a stint at Abbey
Road), and has worked with artists including Kinobe, Suede, the
Dandy Warhols and Mel C. However his career highlight to date was
getting a kiss from Denise van Outen!
Simon
Hunt
Bass, Backing Vocals
Simon was born in
Aylesbury,Bucks but has been Oxford based for some years now. He
has been in several groups ranging from ceilidh to covers bands.
Although his main instrument is bass, he can (occasionally) be persuaded
to play violin, mandolin and guitar - pretty useful in Bridge's
folkier numbers. He listens to Nick Cave, Polly Harvey, Les Negresses
Verts and lots of world music that you won't have heard of.
Bruno
Muellbauer
Keyboards,
Backing Vocals
Bruno has been in Oxford since a fateful
day back in 1983 when he was born. Since then he has mostly been
eating and sleeping, occasionally doing useful things like practicing
piano and attending Oxford University. The piano practice obviously
paid off, because after a long search for a keyboard player, Ed
heard him through the wall of his house and Bruno was swiftly installed
as the fifth part of Bridge. He eats a lot of bacon sandwiches -
in fact, he just eats a lot.
