I
felt increasingly expectant of seeing Bridge after reading in Nightshift,
'Bridge have an arsenal of misty-eyed tunes that could melt hearts or
change lives.' Bridge took to the stage looking slightly out of place
maybe even a little bemused by the whole experience. The band displayed
an enchanting and heartwarming nature at times, although I thought this
was destroyed by their loudness. Personally I think they would have suited
a more intimate performance. I think the audience would have benefited
from hearing inspiration behind their lyrical content, which at times
shone. There was a strong richness in the vocals of Colin MacKinnon, and
obvious signs such as tapping feet and loud applause that showed they
were well received. The group is blatantly passionate about performing. 'So Sue Me' and other later tracks sounded impressive and I could see at times them drawing me into their performance. Other tracks, including lyrics "Don't You Know There's A War On", were increasingly catchy and relevant with a strong backing drumbeat. In their niche they are clearly talented, but personally I think a toned down performance and an undressing of angst would unleash the beauty that was withheld on the night. At times the electric guitar melodic sounds bought the songs to life and a collaboration of all my favourite extracts from the night could easily be the material of a classic. |
