If you are ever down and feeling weak, if you need some sunshine to brighten up your day but your Polyphonic Spree CD is scratched to buggery then come and see Bridge. Next time they play it is your duty to come and see them and dance the night away. In a recent interview they admitted that they had a myriad of influences but that they might be closed in spirit to The Band. Tonight however, they are such more than that. Coming on stage to "Frontier Psychiatrist" and then segueing from that into their first song, a very upbeat number with a stomping slightly 80s keyboard lick, they really get the crowd going. Other songs show the influence of Ben Folds style keyboards and even bear a resemblance to Canterbury crooner Luke Smith. It is in these keyboard driven numbers that Bridge excel as organ and keyboard are combined with guitars, both acoustic and electric, for the most part to great effect. Acoustic songs about the love of a good woman are combined with more political one like "Blood Meridian". Frontman Colin is the star of the show - a virtuoso performer particularly on the keyboards, his Celtic twang is particularly suited to his brand of music. A lot of fun then and I'm really looking forward to seeing them again. |
